Scarborough Faire - Memorial Weekend

I was totally MIA from blogging this past weekend because Dennis, Jack, and I went out of town for a mini-vacation.  I brought my laptop intending to blog every day, but getting back to our hotel room at midnight every night made writing impossible.  Plus, I didn't want to advertise to my little corner of the interweb that we weren't at home - safety first!

Anyway, we spent the weekend at Scarborough Faire, a renaissance festival just south of Dallas.  Scarborough, or Scarby as we affectionately call it, is actually the very first renaissance festival I ever went to, back in 1999, and it was love at first sight.  It's where Dennis and I met and fell in love (our "anniversary" is Memorial weekend - but that's another story for another time), and is now the first renaissance festival Jack has ever been to.  To say Scarby has a special place in my heart is an understatement.  Dennis and I usually work at Scarby, so it was nice to get a chance to just visit for a change.  We had plenty of time to hang out with our friends and walk around and see the faire.  And Jack had the best time!  He's such a good traveler!

Jack offered to help drive

but the weather was really bad

Things cleared up for the rest of the weekend, though.  So some of our friends dressed up like the characters in Shrek.

yeah, there's nothing weird about that Donkey costume

Jack was fascinated with the Danatee's green goatee

I promise I'm not naked; my dress was strapless!

  1. Good times with good friends! I absolutely love that Medieval baby (jail?) stroller, and Jack looks like he did too!

    1. Thank you! I've been waiting a long time to put a kid of my own in that baby jail...

  2. How fun!! Oh my goodness, love the costumes... and Jack is getting so big! :)

  3. You and little Jack with your mud noses are so cute!

  4. Great pictures - this looks like so much fun! :)

    1. Have you ever been to a renaissance festival? They're so much fun, and there's probably one not far from you (it's hard to go to far and not run across one).

  5. Wow, I didn't know that this existed! I went to the Texas Renaissance Festival every year as a little girl and I have so many great memories from it. I am sure you guys are going to give loads of amazing ones to Jack (especially with Shrek characters - those are too cute!)

    1. There are renaissance festivals all around the country. It's pretty amazing how many are out there. It's funny, my husband (who is 12 years older than me) went to TRF for the first time as a little kid (like 6 or 7 years old) before I was even born! He's been working there for almost as long as I've been alive!
